Romberg’s, named in honour of the building’s original architect Frederick Romberg, is positioned on Crystalbrook Kingsley’s rooftop and offers perhaps the city’s most cinematic views with unobstructed panoramas over Newcastle and beyond.

Slick, sophisticated and social, at Romberg’s you’ll find a fun crowd, great music, artisanal cocktails, an excellent range of local wines (along with tipples from beyond), locally brewed beer and light bites celebrating the Hunter's plentiful produce.

A bar for all occasions, from birthday parties to events, a girl’s night out, or drop in for a pre-dinner drink before heading to Roundhouse

The man behind the name

An architect and academic, Frederick Romberg was born in 1913 in Tsingtao (Qingdao), China, the second child of German parents.

Swiss trained, he migrated to Australia in 1938 to avoid compulsory military service should he return to Germany.

Romberg became a multi award-winning leading figure in the development of Modernism. He was renowned for his use of local materials and for his ability to re-form European Modernist architecture into architecture appropriate to Australia.

Cracking views of the city, a working harbour and suburban historic views will compliment the wonderful tapas and drinks you will experience.
A must do if a resident of our great city or a visitor!

Our new favourite venue

What a perfect way to spend an afternoon, we came for afternoon drinks, we enjoyed cocktails, the grazing plate was one of the best we have had. The views were amazing. Service was impeccable, this is definitely one of our favorite places to go now in Newcastle. We look forward to returning. We can’t fault anything, next time we return we would try and book longer we didn’t want to leave. Thanks for an amazing afternoon

Worth a visit

Well worth a visit. We had three different types of cocktails and a grazing platter. The use of natural ingredients is a great way to showcase what Australia has to offer. Service was great and the staff were very attentive. The view was incredible. Can't wait to visit again.
