A sustainable boutique salon a short walk from Crystalbrook Kingsley, Crysalis’ aims to create an experience different from the typical salon space. Rituals include breathing with Oway oils, tea in ceramic cups and complimentary hand massages. It ain’t cheap, but you’ll walk out feeling a million bucks, so the return on investment is big.

Beauty and The Fox

This chic new hair salon cum beauty space cum homewares store is set to open in Mitchell St Merewether in June. Previously a crazy busy home salon and beauty room known as The Fox Den, the newly branded Beauty and The Fox has come about as the team have outgrown their space. Expect no-fuss, efficient colour, cuts and styling plus two beauty rooms offering a range of treatments (Ash does great eyebrows, plus they offer super-speedy 20-minute spray tans). Friendly banter and wine after five thrown in for free. You’ll leave with good hair; you may even leave with new friends.

Face Fingers Fur + Feet

This home salon is run by Fran Parker in Cooks Hill (look for the sign on Laman Street). With 20 plus years’ experience, Fran offers a professional yet friendly one-on-one experience. She specialises in all body waxing (male and female), personalised facials including medical grade peels along with terrific manicures and spa pedicures (including Shellac). Not to mention she’s ace with a spray tan gun (just ensure to wash it off before rolling on Crystalbrook Kingsley’s sheets). Best of all, she’s a five-minute stroll from Crystalbrook Kingsley (closed weekends).

Indulgences Beauty Therapy

Maybe she’s born with it? Then again maybe she went to Indulgences Beauty Therapy. This gorgeous salon at The Junction offers an extensive menu of face, body, wellness and beauty treatments. Think skin needling, IPL, Cosmedix treatments, makeup, body therapy along with fabulous manicures and pedicures. Every treatment is delivered by professional staff in calm, cosy beauty rooms. And they’re open Saturdays. Winning.

Pony Hair Studio

Also in The Junction is Newcastle’s first blow wave bar, Pony Hair Studio. Take a seat at the stylish bar and let the Pony team work their magic. Perhaps you want bouncy curls, tousled beachy waves (perfect for Newy), balayage or grooming for men (Wella colour treatments also available). Pony, thankfully open Tuesday- Saturday, will have your tresses sorted. The best part? Every blow dry comes with a complimentary glass of Champagne (true story). Run, don’t walk.

If your arches (and lashes) need attention get them on point at this sweet brow studio (once again located in The Junction). Do your arches a favour and book in for a signature ‘High Brow’ service. The salon specialises in cosmetic tattooing, brows, threading, hydrafacials and skin treatments. By appointment.

Yū Nontoxic

This sustainable, toxic and cruelty-free nail salon has filled an obvious gap in the market. Owner Mia has worked in salons since she was 17 and realised there had to be a better, non-toxic way of doing nails. Everything from classic manis and pedis are on offer, through to rejuvenating treatments, nail art and more in this cute-as-a-button salon, once again located in The Junction. Book waaaaay in advance.
