Saturday 2 November 

Art at Bailey - Live painting in the lobby with Andrea Heulin 

A former journalist, Andrea is interested in observing and recording what she sees, giving pause to fleeting moments and offering new ways to observe the ordinary - and extraordinary as she uses loose brushwork to creates unlikely oil paintings from quirky scenes, juxtaposed objects, hotel guests and lively surrounds of the lobby at Bailey.

CIAF presents - Carl Fourmile and Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji Dancers

Culture, music, dance and tradition come together as CIAF present Carl Fourmile and the  Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji Dancers in a captivating and inspirational indigenous welcome and smoking ceremony at Bailey.

Sunday 3 November 

Art at Bailey - Live painting in the lobby with Andrea Heulin 

A former journalist, Andrea is interested in observing and recording what she sees, giving pause to fleeting moments and offering new ways to observe the ordinary - and extraordinary as she uses loose brushwork to creates unlikely oil paintings from quirky scenes, juxtaposed objects, hotel guests and lively surrounds of the lobby at Bailey.

Lobby sounds - Hoolia Fujita with Latin vibes

Singing in both English and Spanish, Hoolia has the voice of a goddess. Known for her ethereal and melancholy saw playing (Yes, Hoolia has mastered the art of playing a musical saw), Hoolia will perform two shows in the lobby at Bailey. The first with Latin guitar accompaniment and the second with the talented Dave Cooke who joins musical forces and voices in a truly unique and mesmerising amalgamation of music and metalware in a celebration of sound that needs to be heard to be believed.

Monday 4 November 

Art at Bailey - Contemporary fabric weaving with India Collins 

Emphasising the strong interchange between form and function, contemporary artist and designer, India Collins uses rough edges, ripped fabrics and 100% recycled materials to showcase the variety of weaving techniques she uses in her work as she creates a new piece, live in the lobby at Bailey.

Tuesday 5 November 

Melbourne Cup kick on at CC's Bar and Grill 

It might be the race that stops the nation, but the celebrations are sure to continue #afterthecup at CC’s Bar and Grill. Join us on the alfresco deck and keep your Cup day celebrations rolling with a signature CC’s share board and a bottle of The Lane ‘Lois’ Blanc de Blanc sparkling for only $49. Then, go the distance and join us for dinner. Tables are strictly limited. Bookings recommended. 

The perfect way to end the day. Giddy up.

Wednesday 6 November 

Art at Bailey - Nature Saltwater Creek Basketry demonstration 

Combining traditional skills, craft and contemporary art, Pamela Kusabs and Marcia Bird from Saltwater Creek Basketry are inviting guests and visitors to Bailey to learn about and try their hand at traditional and contemporary basketry skills across not just one, but two engaging demonstrations. The first - Nature - utilising natural materials abundantly found in the Cairns region. WIth the second demonstration - Nurture - using recycled materials to spectacular effect.

Thursday 7 November

CIAF presents - Poeypiyam Dance Group 

From the Torres Strait Islands, the Poeypiyam Dance Group join us in the lobby for a spectacular performance that celebrates their unique culture, history and traditions.

Lobby sounds - John Butagig 

Cairns local, John Butagig brings his passion for music and his mastery of playing not just one, but two guitars to the lobby at Bailey on the eve before his TEDx talk.

Saturday 9 November 

CIAF presents - KoCA Weaver's Group

With their works featured as part of the CIAF showcase on level 7 at Bailey, the KOCA (which stands for Keeping Our Culture Alive) Weavers Group from Kurunda invite guests and visitor to the hotel to watch, learn and join them as they demonstrate some of the traditional Djabugay weaving methods they use to create their works.

Lobby sounds - CIAF presents - Merindi Schreiber and Natalie Mann 

Merindi’s creative song compositions celebrate her Kuku Yalanji (Mossman, North Queensland) roots. Embracing traditional language in performance, Merindi expresses stories from her mother’s land, activating an easy-listening, upbeat timbre, weaving a soulful, uniquely crafted Bama resonance. Merindi will be supported by talented harp soloist, and Artist in Residence at Tanks Art Centre, Natalia Mann.

Art at Bailey - Pottery demonstration with Olivia Azzopardi 

Multi-talented artist and ceramicist Olivia Azzopardi comes to the lobby at Bailey to demonstrate her skill behind the potters' wheel. In front of a live crowd, Olivia will produce a range of wheel-thrown forms including bowls, vases and plates, before assembling them together to create spectacular sculptural works.

CIAF presents - Gimuy Wallubarra Bunya Dancers and Minjil

Through song and dance, the Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji Dancers share the stories of the spiritual beings that created the land, the seas and the seasons distinct to the local area that their ancestors have occupied for as long as they can remember.
